This year’s team will consist of several energetic high school students. We picked up our robot kit from Richmond, VA on January 3, 2009.
The students have 6 weeks to design, build and perfect their robot.
Then it will be shipped to the competition, which will be held
at VCU in Richmond, VA. This will be our 4th year at the Virginia
Regional - FIRST Robotic Competition. In the previous years we
placed in the top 20 teams with over 60 or more teams from several states and countries participating.
The students are responsible for
all aspects of design and functionality of their robot. The Mentor's
and Sponsors are only there for guidance and supervision. In “the
game” this robot will need to achieve points by making “goals”
or providing defense and support for the two teams that they are
in league with. Each round is setup so that most teams will play
with and against each other throughout the competition.
The main focus of the FIRST Robotics
program is to assist in teaching students to exercise Gracious
Professionalism and learn how to apply science and math in a unique
and fun way. Encouraging students to learn how to get along, deal
with pressure, and how to acquire and apply knowledge on the fly.
Students are encouraged to ask questions and find answers to a
variety of challenges and above all, HAVE FUN!
Because - THIS
IS BRAIN SPORTS!
