Prince Edward County Public Schools (PECPS) recently hosted
the Excellence in Teaching Summer Institute sponsored by the Office of
Curriculum and Instruction. New and returning teachers were invited on campus
to this dynamic three-day professional development series. Fifty-five teachers
attended this phenomenal program designed to provide tools to excite and engage
our students! Over twenty sessions were offered. Presenters included Longwood University staff, PECPS staff, a Promethean
representative, Virginia Commonwealth University and other educator guests. The sessions covered a variety of topics which allowed
our educators an opportunity to have hands-on experiences with existing
technology used at PECPS. For example, teachers learned how to fly drones.
Other sessions facilitated open conversations about topics such as trauma and
fostering a love of writing. Opportunities were given to plan and exchange
ideas during the institute. Grand Canyon University and Longwood University
served as our community partners for this program.
