Prince Edward County High School (PECHS) is proud to highlight an exciting opportunity recently experienced by its cosmetology students at Richmond Fashion Week.

Through a field trip organized by cosmetology instructor Mrs. Reese, students Damiya Coleman, Fanny Garduza-Mendez, and Candyce Smith were able to participate in a hands-on, real-world learning experience in a professional setting. While attending the event, students worked behind the scenes alongside professional models, beauty advisors, and designers.

The students assisted with hairstyling, supported designersโ€™ creative visions, and played an important role in bringing each runway look to life. This immersive experience allowed them to apply the skills they have been developing in the classroom within a fast-paced, industry environment.

In addition to their backstage work, students attended the fashion show, watching models walk the runway and seeing the final results of their efforts come to life. They also engaged with industry professionals and had the opportunity to take photos with models, making the experience both memorable and inspiring.

As a result of their participation, each student earned a certification signed by RVA Fashion Week leadership, recognizing their contributions to the event.

โ€œI am incredibly proud of our students and how they represented our program,โ€ said Mrs. Reese. โ€œThis experience gave them the opportunity to step into a professional environment, build confidence, and see firsthand the many career pathways available in the cosmetology industry.โ€

โ€œI would like to extend my sincere thanks to Ms. Khadyija Woodson, a Prince Edward alumna and local cosmetologist, for inviting our students to this wonderful event and for her collaboration with Ms. Chanel Reese in making this opportunity possible. I am incredibly proud of our students and excited about the future of this program,โ€ said Mr. Lee, CTE Principal.

โ€œThe success of our students at Richmond Fashion Week is a shining example of what happens when classroom instruction meets real-world ambition. Seeing our students excel in such a high-pressure, professional environment is a testament to their hard work and the high standards of our cosmetology program.

We are deeply committed to providing immersive, hands-on opportunities that allow our students to see their potential beyond the walls of the classroom. These experiences are more than just field trips; they are the first steps into lifelong careers.

I want to extend my sincere appreciation to Mrs. Reese for her vision in leading these young professionals, and a special thank you to Prince Edward alumna Khadyija Woodson. It is truly inspiring to see our former students return to pour their expertise back into our current Eagles. This collaboration is exactly what makes our community and our CTE programs so strong,โ€ said Dr. Jones, Superintendent.

PECHS remains committed to providing students with meaningful, hands-on learning opportunities that prepare them for success beyond the classroom.
