FROM: FRIENDS OF THE BARBARA ROSE JOHNS FARMVILLE-PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY COMMUNITY LIBRARY LITTLE FREE LIBRARIES AND THE SUMMER READING LISTS

If you have trouble locating or purchasing the books on the PECPS Summer Reading Lists—or if you know others who have trouble doing so—here are some suggestions. First, you can check at the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward County Community Library (1303 West 3rd Street, Farmville) to see if the book(s) are available there. It’s easy to get a library card, and then you can check out a book, read it, and return it so that others can then access it.

Second, the Friends of the Farmville-Prince Edward County Barbara Rose Johns Community Library oversees six sites for Little Free Libraries in this area. Every spring or early summer, copies of books that are on the Summer Reading Lists are placed in these sites. It’s true that the exact book that you want may not be at the first of these Little Free Libraries that you visit, but it’s well worth checking out the possibility. For your information, each Little Free Library operates based on the honor system of "take a book, leave a book." The LFL Committee of the Friends of the Library keeps these sites filled with adult and children's fiction and non-fiction books, and throughout the summer, includes in the collection copies of the various Summer Reading Books from the lists provided by the Prince Edward County schools. So you should replace the book you borrow with a different book, and/or try to return the book you borrowed to the Little Free Library after you read it.

Currently, the Friends of the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville/Prince Edward Community Library maintains six Little Free Libraries at these locations:

A number of organizations in this area sponsor Little Free Libraries, but the Friends of the Community Library make a special effort to offer books from the PECPS Summer Reading Lists. You can recognize one of the Little Free Libraries sponsored by the Friends of the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward County Little Free Library if you see our logo on its front!

Staff superlatives brought lots of laughs and Eagle pride as these two were recognized for “Cleanest Desk” and “Most Likely to Make Students Laugh.” 💜😂

This week, our current and upcoming cosmetology students had the pleasure of welcoming Isaac Cleaton from Isaac Classic Signature Salon as a guest speaker. He shared his experience with state board, his journey in the beauty industry, and the hard work and determination it took to build his career.

The students were highly engaged and really connected with his message. They enjoyed hearing his personal experiences, viewing examples of his work before opening his salon, and receiving advice about professionalism, motivation, and perseverance within the industry.

Mr. Cleaton provided students with motivational goodie bags that included inspirational quotes inside capsules, which students read aloud together. It was a great way to encourage and inspire students as we close out the school year on a positive note.

PECHS HVAC System Update: The current system has been experiencing issues and is at the end of its life cycle. An updated chiller unit is scheduled to be delivered within the next few weeks, and installation will begin shortly after delivery. Unfortunately, installation of an updated HVAC system during the school year is almost impossible due to the scope of the work involved. In the meantime, our maintenance team is continuously monitoring the system, resetting it when it trips out, and adjusting settings to help keep it running overnight so it can be checked again early each morning. Our goal is to have the system fully operational by the start of the new school year. Thank you for your patience, understanding, and continued support. - Dr. Jones, Superintendent

🎓 We’ve celebrated our seniors, and now it’s time to honor our Pre-K, Kindergarten, 4th grade, and 8th grade students! These stepping-up ceremonies mark exciting new chapters as our Eagles continue to grow — from itty bitty Eagles to future high school freshmen. 🦅💜💛

National Speech-Language Pathologist Day is celebrated annually on May 18, and PECPS is proud to recognize our dedicated speech-language pathologists! 💬✨

Our SLPs help students build communication skills, confidence, and independence that support success both inside and outside the classroom. Thank you for the patience, expertise, and care you bring to our schools each day!
