PECES recently organized a Lunch and Learn series to celebrate Black History Month. During the event, Dr. Wallace, Assistant Superintendent, read the book "Thank You Omu" to the students, while Dr. Smith, Assistant Principal at PECMS, read his book titled "Uncle Charles and Me." The students were encouraged to share their thoughts and comments about the books. #EverybodyReadsVA








High school counselor, Ms. Duncan, was found spreading cheer during Kindness Week! Students sent notes and kind words to their classmates and teachers all week to spread cheer throughout the building. #KindnessMatters

The family of Todd Brandon Schinabeck ('19) has established an annual scholarship at PECHS in his honor. The scholarship supports students entering a Power Line Worker Training Program or other Trade/Vocational School post-graduation. Todd, a graduate of SVCC's Power Line Worker Training Program, tragically passed away in a motorcycle accident in October 2021. Applications can be picked up in the school counseling office, with a deadline of March 29, 2024.

The girl's track team was a regional runner-up at the regional track. They placed second out of thirteen teams with a score of 106 points. Aliyah Raches is the individual champion in the high jump with a jump of four feet and ten inches. Makayla Nelson was a regional long jump champion with a leap of seventeen feet and seven inches. The boys team placed sixth overall.

For Black History Month, the middle school selects an important African American to highlight each week. The morning news crew hosts a trivia contest and announces the winner live every morning. This week's Person of the Week is Dorothy Vaughan. Vaughan was a teacher in Farmville and later became a mathematician for NASA. You can learn more about her incredible journey and legacy in the book and film "Hidden Figures."

Spring sports are right around the corner! Tryouts for high school spring sports start this Monday, February 19th after school. All students staying after must have a current VHSL sports physical on file.
